Meet Attorney Krystal W. Smith

Krystal W. Smith is the founder and owner of K. LAWS, LLC, a law firm primarily focused in the areas of Real Estate, Family Law and Estate Planning. Krystal is also the owner of KWS Properties of Spartanburg LLC, a real estate investment company. Krystal began her journey in real estate by working at a real estate closing law firm and as a licensed real estate agent while pursuing her Bachelor of Arts degree at Norfolk State University.

 

After graduating Summa Cum Laude from Norfolk State University, Krystal earned her Juris Doctor degree from Western Michigan University, Thomas M. Cooley Law School.  While attending law school, Krystal discovered her passion to advocate for families and victims of domestic violence. She externed at the Domestic Violence Court in Lansing, Michigan and received the Certificate of Merit in her Domestic Violence Practice course.

 

Upon graduating from law school, Krystal devoted her legal career to representing low-income families, victims of domestic violence and senior citizens in civil matters such as divorces, custody disputes, adoptions, as well as defending evictions, foreclosures and other property disputes. Along with her court advocacy, Krystal has conducted countless loan closings through the South Carolina Homeownership and Lending Program (SCHELP) as well as preparing estate planning documents for senior citizens and the terminally ill. 

 

Prior to opening K. LAWS LLC, Krystal served as the Managing Attorney at South Carolina Legal Services, Inc. in Spartanburg. Before working in South Carolina, she practiced law in the State of Michigan. She maintains her license to practice law in both South Carolina and Michigan.

Over the years, Krystal has also participated in various legal clinics and speaking presentations on issues such as elder abuse, domestic violence and landlord-tenant rights at local senior citizen homes, domestic violence shelters as well as organizational fairs and panel presentations throughout the community.

 

Krystal serves on the Executive Board of the Spartanburg NAACP and on the South Carolina Bar House of Delegates for the 7th Circuit. Krystal enjoys Zumba, long walks with her dog Apollo and spending time with her husband, family and friends. ◆
